Mission Statement
Our mission is to increase access to safe and affordable bicycles while empowering self sufficiency in maintenance and commuting. Bikes for Humanity PDX takes in donated bikes, trains volunteers how repair and overhaul them, and grants bikes to folks who need them in our community. Our staff and volunteers grant 100+ bikes, 1,000+ repairs, while taking in, recycling, and fixing and redistributing 100s of bikes each year.
About This Cause
Our mission is to increase access to safe and affordable bicycles while empowering self sufficiency in maintenance and commuting. We work towards this mission in several ways: Refurbishing donated bikes, community outreach, and education. Our staff and volunteer mechanics take underutilized bikes out of the waste stream, and connect them with adopters in the community. Paired with our free workshops and professional curriculum, volunteers learn the skills of bike work as they bikes safe and working. Through this process, B4H volunteers become allies for other cyclists needing help with their bike, and self-sufficient themselves in making their bike work for them. Lastly, through outreach in the Portland area, we provide free repairs at external events, and grant bikes through community partners.
