PARENT ASSOCIATION OF PS 139

BROOKLYN, New York, 11226-0000 United States

Mission Statement

The mission of PS 139 is to provide a nurturing environment that promotes and celebrates the differences in all of our students while fostering independence and developing life-long learners. The school maintains a commitment to academic excellence through differentiated instruction in literacy and numeracy based skills while maintaining rigorous instructional practices in all content areas that support individual student’s needs and maximize their potential. The mission of PS 139's Parent Association is to create community amongst families, support children in their development, and provide access to programs that otherwise would be out of reach for the school to fund.

About This Cause

PS 139 is a large Title I school in Flatbush Brooklyn where many of the students come from low-income households. Our school is considered a community hub and a source of support beyond the regular school day by the families and children who live in our neighborhood. The school's Parent Association funds much-needed programs for PS139's students including afterschool clubs, enrichment programs, a thriving garden, a theater program and sports teams. We also support the broader school community and its families with food access, crisis funding, language interpretation, and more.
