Mission Statement
The Japanese Language School of Greater Boston (JLS) was established by members of the Japanese Association of Greater Boston (JAGB) in June 1975. The school’s goal was to maintain and strengthen the Japanese language skills of children of Japanese descent who lived in Boston and the surrounding communities. JLS aims to raise and inspire internationally responsible young people with a pioneering spirit, deep appreciation for Japanese culture, love and respect for humanity, and a commitment to world peace.
About This Cause
JLS consists of kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, senior high school, and Japanese-as-a-foreign-language programs. Because JLS is not a full-time school, the primary objective of the school is, as outlined by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of the Japanese government, to teach: 1) fundamental knowledge, concepts, and skills of academic subjects in Japanese, and 2) Japanese school culture in the Japanese language so that the students may integrate smoothly into the school environment when they return to Japan.
