The Urban League of Nebraska is an empowering voice in the community advocating for economic self-sufficiency, parity, power, civil rights, and equal opportunity for all. The Urban League of Nebraska is a private, non-profit, community-based organization that administers programs in Employment/Career Services, and Education/Youth Development. Our signature programs are in the areas of school, work and community.
About This Cause
Urban League of Nebraska provides programs and services in three areas: school, work, and community. School After-School Programming- Supervised academic and enrichment activities for elementary and middle-school students. Youth Attendance Navigator A truancy reduction program within Omaha Public Schools to prevent middle and high school students from entering the juvenile justice system due to chronic absenteeism. The program provides 1:1 mentoring, academic support, and conflict management. Whitney M. Young, Jr. Academy Provides students in grades 9 through 12 with training and opportunities for leadership development, career exploration, financial literacy, and college preparation. College Tours Annual college visits and cultural enrichment activities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and cultural sites to increase awareness and promote college enrollment. The visits help students understand the college admission process and what is required of them to succeed. Summer Credit Recovery - This program provides students with an opportunity to recover educational credits in order to stay on track for graduation. Scholarships - ULN awards post-secondary scholarships to graduating seniors in Nebrasaka who meet specific academic requirements. Financial Empowerment Program Provides personalized financial coaching for individuals and families. The program prepares individuals for workforce development opportunities that will increase their income and advance their careers. Financial coaching helps participants develop plans to improve and manage their financial health by increasing and maintaining credit scores, setting a budget, and reducing debt. It also prepares participants for homeownership or starting a small business. Community Supplier Conferences to provide businesses with access to information, training, and financial resources Legislative and advocacy training for high school students North Omaha Initiative is a partnership with UNO to increase the accessibility of college courses to community members.
