About This Cause

The Nebraska Hospice and Palliative Care Association (NHPCA) is a collaborative effort of more than 60 organizations with an interest in good care for terminally and chronically ill Nebraskans. Its vision is that no Nebraskan lives in pain or dies badly. NHPCA was established as a 501(c)3 community betterment non-profit in 1983. In addition to community end-of-life coalitions and health and elder-care organizations, nearly 100 percent of Nebraska’s hospice providers are members of NHPCA, the state’s hospice association. Nebraska hospice providers report more than 8,470 admissions in 2013. Although admissions have more than double from 2002, this figure still indicates that less than half of dying Nebraskans utilized the team-based, patient centered services of hospice last year. NHPCA works through public awareness, professional education, advocacy, research, and quality improvement to increase hospice usage. NHPCA’s hospice member providers serve 96% of Nebraska counties.
