About This Cause
Our Mission - Serving a diverse community by providing holistic behavioral healthcare services and education programs to individuals, families, and groups. Our Vision - Increase our reach to youth, adults, families, and community care providers through education, prevention, advocacy, and collaboration. Our goal is to help individuals relieve emotional and psychological pain, make behavioral changes that facilitate growth and increase self-awareness and self-knowledge leading to health living. Our History - The Center for Holistic Development, Inc. (CHD) was founded in June 2001 to provide an alternative to traditional behavioral healthcare. Doris Moore, Founder and CEO is committed to individual personal development and community empowerment are the impetus for CHD's existence. The continuum of services offered by the organization are intended to prevent, education, outreach, and intervene with mental and emotional conditions that interfere with life's functioning. CHD defines behavioral health counseling using a holistic lens to move people toward mental wellness. The unique holistic approach created by the founder uses S.P.E.C.I.A.L in the promotion of mind, body, and soul connectedness and encourages use of Spiritual, Physical, Emotional & Economic, Cultural, Intellectual, Associations, and Love for Self and others as a wellness road map for balance and total well-being. Signature programs and services Outpatient Behavioral Health Counseling - clinical services to address mental illness and substance abuse issues for all ages, individuals, couples, and families. Real TALK: social and emotional intelligence education for elementary and middle school children. Discussions include real world issues and strategies for problem solving, goal setting, healthy relationships and more. Urban Youth B.O.L.T. (Building our leaders today) - a culturally based intervention, leadership program for at-risk African American males and females, ages 10 - 17. Activities and program discussions guide application of the principles of Kwanzaa and African American history. Holistic Family Support Services: child welfare - this program provides face to face or virtual coaching, help, teaching and role modeling to assist families in a creative, rapid, and sustainable change toward re-unification. KidSquad: childcare consultation - a collaborative effort between several agencies to provide childcare staff with tools to encourage social and emotional competence to children with challenging behaviors. Family Engagement and Resource Connection - provides education groups designed to provide parents with evidence based techniques to enhance nurturing and parent engagement with all levels of parenting. GrandFriends for grassroots change: Young adult mentoring - a mentoring program for African American young adults ages 19 - 30. Outreach and Education - The goal of outreach and education is to reduce stigma and increase utilization of behavioral health services.
