Mission Statement
The Forgiveness Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit, non-religious organization dedicated to the public benefit. Since 2001, we have helped people forgive through utilizing published Clinical Research and Neuroscience to make forgiving easier so that reconciliation, stress management, and conflict resolution are more effective. OUR OBJECTIVE: Building caring families and communities by healing blame, resentment and grudges. OUR PRODUCT = People forgiving more instead of using retaliation and revenge. OUR MOTTO: Peace of mind through forgiving. OUR VISION - A world where more and more people, families, communities, and organizations are kind, peaceful and functioning better, and thus more content and loving. OUR MISSION - Promote the power and success in forgiveness through useful methods that create safer environments for people to come together to deal with their upsets. OUR PURPOSE - Happy, safe and peaceful families, groups, and communities by helping people to see each other in a more compassionate, accepting way. HOW WE DO IT: 1. Helping people be free of upsets with themselves and others by facing and let go of their hostility, guilt, resentments, grudges, and blame. 2. Assisting people to take care of themselves and others by becoming more compassionate, forgiving, and accepting. 3. Providing proven teaching and coaching tools and resources, which bring about forgiveness, less stress, and easier conflict resolution and reconciliation. TO ACCOMPLISH THE ABOVE, WE 1) Research, develop and teach effective methods to enable much-improved communication through forgiveness, reconciliation and stress management. 2) Strive to provide excellent resources, as courses and training videos, to help individuals and groups to get past the social and emotional barriers that cause stress and prevent forgiving and reconciliation. 3) Sponsor and help individuals, churches, community groups, and organizations to train people on how to deal with stress and forgive effectively and to spread the word about the power of forgiveness.
About This Cause
We have been providing free or donation-based workshops and coaching based on forgiving since 2001. Our money comes from donations and the sale of the books we publish. Through the years, we have been developing methods to help people forgive and have taught these from coast to coast in the USA and internationally in universities, schools, hospitals, businesses, agencies, conferences, public seminars, and churches. Our speakers, frequently speak and present on dealing with betrayal, self-forgiveness, conflict resolution, stress reduction, with non-religious-based forgiveness as a primary focus. These are all integrated into our workshops and publications. Nobel Peace Prize winner, Archbishop Desmond Tutu acknowledged, our founder and CEO, Dr. Jim Dincalci, for contributing to his book, The Book of Forgiving, and Jim’s spending “over twenty-five years counseling and teaching people who are struggling to forgive.” Dr. Dincalci brings his extensive experience in counseling and teaching forgiveness to guide our clients and volunteers and those who want to speak, counsel, coach, and present forgiveness workshops. In 1993, he had a deep personal forgiveness transformation which pulled him out of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder he had for over 16 years. Since then, as a Child & Family Therapist and university instructor, he has been developing ways and perspectives to help people forgive. His MA is in Counseling Psychology 1986 and Doctorates are in Religious Studies and Divinity 2006. We publish his book, How to Forgive When You Can't: The Breakthrough Guide to Free Your Heart and Mind. It is also published in eight other languages- French, Spanish, German, Italian, Romanian, Lithuanian, Traditional Chinese in Taiwan, and in Simplified Chinese in Mainland China (in 2017 it sold over 65,000 copies). It is the winner of the Living Now Book Award in Personal Growth; winner of the Global eBook Awards in psychology/Mental Health; a finalist in the Indie Book Awards - Self-Help; and a finalist in the esteemed Foreword Review Magazine Book of the Year Award in Self-Help. Our work integrates research in Forgiveness Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Neuroscience, and his 50 years of studying world religions and their time-proven practices, including cross-cultural healing ways, i.e., prayers and meditations, and inspirational viewpoints, which all aid in forgiving. These methods helped Dr. Jim in his forgiveness transformation in 1993. His transformation and forgiveness work with others has encouraged us to become a very strong advocate for the development of an effective forgiveness therapy and training, which the Forgiveness Foundation holds to since 2001. Representing us, in 2020 and in 2017, Dr. Dincalci presented at The Rotary World Peace Conference in Ontario CA and in Ann Arbor, MI, respectively, where he presented, “Letting Go of Resentment, Grudges, and Guilt: Crucial Tools from The New Field of Forgiveness Therapy for Propagating Peace.” His other professional conference presentations include the Campaign for Forgiveness Research 2003, Association of Transpersonal Psychology Conferences in 1986-89, Florida Hospice & Palliative Care Association 2017, FL Council on Crime & Delinquency-Criminal Justice 2016, and Keynote speaker twice at the Wholistic Women’s Empowerment Experience in Durham, NC 2010 & 11. Internationally, he has given seminars and workshops at Cayetano Herrera University Medical School in Lima, Peru, The Stress and Anxiety Research Society 37th Annual Conference 2016 in Zagreb, Croatia, and the International Congress of Psychology 2016 in Yokohama, Japan. He was an Assistant Professor in the Mediation and Conflict Resolution Program at Sonoma State University from 2000 to 2005, teaching every semester “Forgiving Difficult Situations.” He’s taught semester courses on Forgiveness Therapy at Duke University – Durham, NC, and in Tallahassee - Florida State University and Florida A&M University. His “Teaching How to Forgive” classes were offered at California State University, Hayward, CA; the University of the Pacific in Sacramento, CA; City College of San Francisco; and College of Marin, Kentfield, CA. “The more I do forgiveness work, the more I continue to be astounded at the power of forgiveness to heal all avenues of life - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. When people forgive, their lives become richer, healthier, happier and certainly filled with more love and peace.” - Dr. Jim Dincalci, Founder & CEO of the Forgiveness Foundation.
