Mission Statement

Run4Fun promotes positive youth development and mental health through running and socio-emotional learning.

About This Cause

Run4Fun was founded in April, 2014 inspired by the Founder’s son and Co-Founder Panagiotis, who loved to run and play, but had anxiety surrounding competition. When the Founder encouraged him to join a track team, he said, “no, but if you lead it, I will join.” The Founder did just that, taking Panagiotis and his six friends to the park to run, play running games, and travel to run races. They express that Run4Fun has been life-saving, creating life-long friendships through periods in their life of anxiety, depression, and school anxiety. Today Run4Fun serves over 2000 youth throughout NYC. Run4Fun curriculum is scaffolded to each coed age group, coupling life-skills with developing an active and healthy lifestyle through running to address the mental, physical, emotional, educational, and social development of youth. Our programming empowers youth to reach their fullest potential across all areas of their lives by providing them with a love of sport and the tools to maintain their health throughout their lifetime. Harnessing the power of sport and encouraging youth to remain physically active is a vital component to building social and emotional growth. Running is an ideal vehicle for encouraging and promoting positive youth development, a foundation of sport and play, making it an ideal vehicle for encouraging and promoting positive youth development. Girls' Program-Curriculum- our girls’ socio-emotional youth-led program provides a safe, empowering space centered on self-esteem, team building, confidence, mental health, communication, conflict resolution, leadership, self-regulation, and resilience. We provide mentorship opportunities for girls to mentor younger girls in our program, mentorship with female professionals, building upon the girls’ passions, interests-managing goals. We have had success expressed in positive SEL capacities, social skills, positive peer to peer, mentoring relationships, increase in self-esteem and positive body image, self-regulation, contribution, academic self-efficacy, and developed interests and goals. Our program provides a safe and empowering space for our girls to feel strong to explore their interests, build self-confidence, leadership, and teamwork. Partners- We partner with schools, CBO's, and communities throughout NYC, including New Destiny Housing and A Place for Kids, and many more. New Destiny Housing is a nonprofit that provides housing and services to individuals and families who have experienced homelessness as a result of domestic violence. We partner with New Destiny to deliver our programs to their locations in Bed Stuy and Coney Island, Brooklyn, Jamaica, Queens, and working to expand to the Bronx. A Place for Kids- We partner with A Place for Kids to bring our programming to PS 2 and PS 34. PS 2, located in Chinatown, is the first ever Run4Fun Manhattan location. Through our connection with Leland Yu, his mother Minerva Chin, and their Run for Chinatown campaign to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic’s negative effects on the community, we partner with A Place for Kids.
