Mission Statement
The Dream Centers of Michigan are in the Dream Center Network. Our goal is to Find a Need and Fill It, Find a Hurt and Heal It. We are a non-profit 501c3.
About This Cause
The Dream Centers of Michigan is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that serves homeless, low-income, at-risk youth, and struggling families. Our goal is to help transform communities in Southeast Michigan, one person at a time, by providing resources and opportunities that help people realize their dream of living a self-sufficient life. We believe lives can begin to be transformed when basic needs are met and people are given opportunities to learn and access life skills training. Our mission is to reconnect isolated people to God with a community of support by providing compassion with accountability that addresses immediate and long-term needs. Our vision is to transform underserved communities by helping broken people realize their God-given value, while providing for their basic needs, a healthy lifestyle, and opportunities for learning life skills. While each Dream Center is unique because each community is different, it's our goal that each Dream Center in Michigan would fill the gaps in each of these key areas: Food Life Skills Training and Housing. In 2013 we saw the needs in Pontiac and opened our first Dream Center. In 2015, we opened a second Dream Center in Warren. Pontiac is known as the "forgotten city" in Michigan. What was once a town filled with businesses and a thriving downtown has been vacated. four recreational centers for the youth have closed their doors. Pontiac is the poorest city in Oakland County. As of 2016, 37.8% of the people live in poverty, 100% of the kids in the public schools qualify for free and reduced lunches, 3,200 people are homeless, and 67% of the population is functionally illiterate. The Dream Center is here to serve and bring hope to the people in Pontiac. In Warren, recent research suggests that about 100 school households in the region are completely reliant on free breakfasts/lunches from the schools. Kids are hungry on weekends and school breaks. Over 5,600 vacant homes weaken neighborhoods that were once safe and vibrant. There are few organizations that are responding to the crisis of hopelessness that families, the elderly, and people with special needs are facing. the Dream Center of Warren seeks to reverse this trend.
