The mission of Union Capital is to transform social capital into opportunity by rewarding community engagement.
About This Cause
Union Capital sparks pathways to community and civic participation, which fuels individual opportunity and strengthens neighborhood networks of support for thousands of UCB members. UCB provides 1) a mobile rewards app for community engagement, 2) trained and stipended Network Leaders from the community to invite members to join the app and run UCB programming, and 3) community-based Network Nights. UCB’s App is the most comprehensive resource aggregator in Boston and it recognizes the self-agency and connections needed to access opportunity. The earned reward offsets the tradeoff of time that we all make to volunteer, and it bolsters organizations’ impact by creating real incentives for participation. The pandemic has posed a challenge but also presents a real need that UCB can meet to get information, resources, and funding into thousands of people’s hands effectively and efficiently in under-resourced Boston neighborhoods. Our model of relationships and rewards is creating a consistent opportunity to engage and build social capital where one has not existed before. UCB makes it easy to network with so many people that whatever you need, you can find a way to get it or do it. UCB encourages everyone of us to be leaders and to make a difference in our community.”
