About This Cause
Prashanthi Nilayam ( meaning, Abode of Supreme Peace) is a community service organization based on the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba, a spiritual teacher who lived in India from 1926 to 2011. Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings have enormous appeal to humanity. First, they are simple and yet profound. Second, they are applicable to all spiritual seekers (irrespective of their faith). Third, they are universal in nature. His teachings are captured essentially by the following messages: - Service to man is service to God - Help ever; hurt never - There is only one religion, the Religion of Love - There is only one language, the Language of the Heart - There is only one Race, Race of Humanity - If you are a Christian, be a good Christian; if you are a Hindu. be a good Hindu; if you are a Muslim, be a good Muslim.......... - All are one; be alike to everyone - Love all; serve all As Sathya Sai Baba himself led by personal example, the Organization has strict guidelines in terms of raising funds. We cannot solicit nor have any fund-raisers. Prashanthi Nilayam is funded completely by voluntary giving by the followers who walk the message of service to Humanity. No salary is drawn from the Organization at all levels. The administrators and volunteers are there to give and not to take. Volunteers have been active from the start of the Pandemic, since March 2020, supporting and providing lunch meals for the homeless/jobless and folks living in encampments and low-income families four days a week in San Jose downtown location. Total of about 500 lunch meals are now provide every week. In addition, clothing, winter accessories, hygiene and survival kits are being distributed at different times during this difficult time. Similar help is provided at different locations in the greater Bay Area, including supporting local homeless shelters. The facility which the supporters and members would like to purchase, will be a hub for all like-minded volunteers to use their skills and resources to provide various sustainable services to the needy, underprivileged youth, adults and families in the local community and in the greater Bay Area. Services will be rendered at no cost to the recipients in the areas of (i) Social Care (food, clothing, and other basic needs), (ii) Education (tutoring, computer literacy and coding, after school coaching, career counseling and training, resume and job interview skills for unemployed under prviledged youth and adults), and (iii) Medical and Dental Care Camps. Also, the facility will provide the ambience for personal positive transformation through universal holistic services such as meditation, yoga, tai-chi and provide a peaceful environment for spiritual seekers from all walks of life and from all faiths. Our volunteers here in the Bay Area have been performing community service since 1993. The facility will help bring about sustainability and continuity to all our service activities. Recently Prashanthi Nilayam was successful in acquiring an 2-acre property in Tracy, CA. We will work to bring about above mentioned Community Service Programs which will help the needy Community in Northern California.
