About This Cause
Fourth River Solutions (4RS) is a graduate-student run consulting group that is dedicated to bridging the gap between graduate-level education in STEM fields and industry careers. As scientific career options have decreased, PhD students , masters students, and postdoctoral fellows have been forced to look elsewhere for employment. 4RS aims to help them in this transition by showing them how they can take advantage of their strong problem solving, communication, leadership, and organizational skills to transition into careers across all realms of the business world. We use consulting engagements as a means to develop these skills with real clients throughout Pittsburgh’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and the United States at large. By bringing together like-minded individuals across STEM fields, universities, and career stages we have created a valuable source of talent that has helped grow Pittsburgh's entrepreneurial sector in the biotech, medtech, healthcare, and AI markets. The group is open to all graduate-level students currently pursuing a PhD or masters or who are currently working as postdoctoral fellows in Pittsburgh. Our consultants work on a volunteer basis and benefit from a multitude of professional development events related to career prep and skill development. To add even more value, we utilize our vast catalog of connections we have accumulated over our 10 year tenure to host these events and are looking forward to continue assisting advanced degree candidates transition into fulfilling careers outside of the laboratory.
