Mission Statement

Alex's Army Childhood Cancer Foundation is a 501c3 focused on funding research for new treatments for childhood cancers, raising awareness for all childhood cancers, and providing encouragement and support for families whose lives are forever changed by a childhood cancer diagnosis.

About This Cause

Alex's Army is an all-volunteer non-profit whose mission is three-fold: To provide funding for Childhood Cancer Research with a focus on Wilm's Tumor; To raise awareness for all childhood cancers; and To provide Christian focused support and encouragement to families and children whose lives have been forever impacted by a childhood cancer diagnosis. Alex's Army was established in 2014 by Alex and his family. Alex was originally diagnosed with Stage IV Wilm's tumor in 2009 at the age of 5. Alex battled cancer for almost 7 years and went through a lot in the time he fought. Around every corner it seemed there were setbacks and new obstacles to face but through it all Alex remained hopeful and determined. When Alex became paralyzed, he contineud to press on by playing Wheelchair Basketball for the Fairfax Falcons and sled hockey for the DC Sled Sharks. Prior to forming Alex's Army, the family and friends would hold an annual 5K event as a way to give back to the many organizations that helped them along the way. As the Green's learned more about the lack of funding for new treatments for childhood cancers and that only 4% of the National Cancer Research budget is allocated for children's cancers, the more they realized they needed to do more to make a difference. In 2014, Alex's Army was formed as a 501c3 and in 2015 the organization presented their first research check in the amount of $35,000 to the Children's Oncology Group for Wilm's Tumor Research. The organization has continued to grow in many ways providing care packages, pillowcases, crochet dolls, and even providing monthly breakfast visits to the local Children's hospital. In 2016 alone, Alex's Army provided $105,000.00 for Research Funding, delivered over 350 care packages, 137 pillowcases, and made care package deliveries to 6 hospitals in the U.S. On June 5, 2016 Alex passed away with his parents by his side. Though Alex is gone, he is never forgotten and Alex's Army will exist and continue fight for ALL kids until there are cures! It takes an ARMY to fight childhood cancer... ...We are Alex's Army!
