Mission Statement
The Reed Community Foundation has a reputation of success in working with children and youths, often from at-risk environments, by providing structure, discipline, and training in social skills to help them become positive contributors to the community.
About This Cause
The Reed Community Foundation is located in a North Tulsa multi-cultural neighborhood. The gym attracts children from the local community as well as throughout Tulsa and surrounding towns. Coach Reed provides structure and discipline, yet is gentle and insightful regarding each child's background and needs. He often is a substitute parental role model for children who don't have a father in their lives, and possibly mothers unavailable because of long working hours. He accepts children and at-risk youth regardless of their ability to pay, because he feels called to improve the lives of these young people. He emphasizes manners and consideration of the other person in preparation for their positive contributions to the community. Separately, he cooperates with the Office of Juvenile Affairs, the Department of Human Services, the Tulsa Public School system and other K-12 schools in working with at-risk youth. The agencies contact Coach Reed with difficult cases as a way to offer an alternative to more severe treatment. He has a strong record in redirecting these young people towards acceptable behavior and academic achievement. Some of the youth return on their own to work with him because of the rapport they developed in the past.
