Mission Statement
To support the health, safety, educational, cultural, environmental, social and economic resiliency of the Hau’ula community through supporting civic and social engagement, volunteerism, fiscal support and partnerships with local, city, state and national agencies/ organizations.
About This Cause
Goals/Initiatives: 1. Civic and Social Engagement a. Ho’olaulea: Annual Community Festival b. 5K Run/Walk: Held in conjunction with the Ho’olaulea c. HCA Monthly meeting: First Tuesday every month 6:30 PM d. BreakFEST: Monthly breakfast with entertainment and/or educational speaker/s f. Community Service/Volunteers: for Food distribution, Environmental Stewardship Teams. etc. g. Holoholo/Excursions: Seniors visit people, places and things for the betterment of our community 2. Safety and Security a. HELP Team: Emergency Preparedness and Climate Change Mitigation b. Neighborhood Security Watch: Sign-Waving, Checking Hotspots, Block Captains c. Food Security – Ulu/Breadfruit Project & School-Community Garden/ Loi Restoration Project d. Waste Conversion /Power/Fuel options for Community Resilience 3. Ahupua’a (Community-Based Environmental & Cultural Resource Management) a. Kuleana project: Music and Technology program b. NOAA BWET Grant: Hau’ula Watershed Xplorers (implemented at Hauula Elementary & APIS c. Maunawila Heiau: Cultural Stewardship Saturdays d. North Shore Ocean Fest: Environmental Education Event at Turtle Bay Resort held annually e. Aloha Aina EDventures: Environmental Education & Stewardship Activities (Saturdays Year-Round) f. Stewardship Action Program (School and Community): Environmental Stewardship g. Beach Cleanups h. Ha Initiative: Creative STEM After-School Program for 2nd-8th grade students, provided in collaboration with Honolulu Community Action Program 4. Health and Wellness a. WIC collaboration b. Ko’olauloa Kupuna Club (exercise programs & art program, social engagement, educational speakers) + 2018 HCAP Kupuna Program (13 weeks: Sept/Oct/Nov. on Wednesdays) c. Homeless Program- d. Substance Abuse Program- AA program e. Ko’olaulo’a Health Center – Primary Care Clinic, Dental Health, Behavioral Health f. 5K Run/Walk – Running teams at schools compete prior to Hoolaulea g. Senior Food Box Distribution in Koolaulo’a in collaboration with Hawaii Food Bank h. Ohana Food Distribution Program: 1st Monday Monthly @Hauula Beach Park Pavillon, 2-4PM 5. Economic/Educational Programs/Support a. HCAP: Na Lima Hana Employment Core Services Program 6. Halau o Ko’olaulo’a / Community Center for Ko’olaulo’a Moku/District a.
