Mission Statement
We are a non-profit organization with geographical jurisdictions East of the Anacostia in Washington DC's Ward 7 and Ward 8. We provide youth with a safe, fun and family oriented program that demonstrates the ideals of good sportsmanship, character, teamwork, courage and respect. Our program ensures every player regardless of ability to have a great experience. Our league was founded with the intention to provide a safe, fun and competitive place for the youth of our area to play baseball and softball to allow them to grow into young men and women with a strong sense of community.
About This Cause
Created in 2015, Mamie Johnson Little League was named after Washington, DC resident Mamie “Peanut” Johnson, an American professional baseball player who was one of three women, and the first female pitcher, to play in the Negro Leagues. MJLL embraces the belief that baseball instills the discipline and commitment that our youth need to realize their self-worth, athletic potential and educational aspirations. We strive to give every child an opportunity to play no matter what the circumstance, financial, or otherwise. With the economic challenges our families face in our region of Washington, D.C., it is our endeavor to minimize the costs to ensure that MJLL is both, affordable and beneficial, to the children in the community. Mamie Johnson Little League (MJLL) is a positive outlet for nearly 300 boys and girls between the ages of 4-14 who play baseball and softball each spring and fall. The league, which is a non-profit organization staffed and administered by volunteers, remains wholly committed to seeing that children are provided a healthy, safe, and fun environment to learn and enjoy the game of baseball and softball. We are a member of the little league international urban initiative program. We have accomplished winning the urban initiative tournament held in the Bronx, NY in 2017 and 2019 as well as represented the State of Washington DC in the Little League World Series in Bristol, Connecticut. We have also taken trips to the little world series in Williamsport, PA to give our kids the experience of seeing teams all over the world participate in the same tournament they are participating in.
