Mission Statement

The Beaverton High Success Fund five-year plan includes many key improvements designed to increase student achievement, enhance student engagement, and provide lasting improvements to the BHS facility.

About This Cause

BHSSF areas of focus: Academic Programs: College visitations for every student in grades 9 and 10: 9th and 10th grade students will experience a local college campus, visit a class, and meet with admissions personnel, college faculty and students. The visitation will offer first hand insight and awareness of the opportunities for post secondary study. Travel funds for band, choir, and drama: All three arts programs at BHS are growing. Each program is expanding its performance and competition schedules to provide students with robust performance experiences. BHS Robotics Team: There is a strong interest among students to participate in the statewide robotics development program. Students work collaboratively to design, construct, program, and operate a robot at various events throughout the state. The skills learned in this activity prepare students for post secondary education and 21 st century workplaces. Student Financial Support: Advanced Placement fee scholarships BHS students took over 600 Advanced Placement tests during the 2013-14 school year. The cost for one AP exam is $50. Scholarships will increase access to the exams by students whose families face economic challenges, yet do not qualify for state assistance. Access to college credit increases student success in high school and post-secondary education. Academic and athletic fee support for families in need: Currently students pay $225 per athletic team and $75 to participate in activities (band, choir, drams). Scholarships will make these opportunities available to more students. Technology: Classroom technology - Every classroom needs to be brought to a common baseline of technology resources. Wider and broader distribution of technology resources will allow teachers to infuse more technology into the classroom experience. Technology enhancements for the classroom would include iPad and laptop computer labs and projectors for every classroom. Individual student technology resources: Equitable student access to computer resources ensures that every student become proficient in the use of technology and develop the 21st century skills necessary for future success. Although many students have access to technology, there are gaps in access based on economic resources. Money from the Fund would be used to purchase iPads, laptops and calculators for checkout. Facility Improvements: Student Center remodel - The Student Center is an important gathering spot for students. It is the entrance to the school and is a defining place for the community. Improvements in layout, design, and furniture are planned for this space to enhance the comfort and appeal of the space. Gym and Gym Lobby refurbishment: The gym and gym lobby are public gathering spaces for a variety of events and activities. The gym offers BHS a chance to showcase its tradition of excellence. Improvements will celebrate the successes of the past while instilling pride in the teams of the present. Library improvements - The library at BHS is one of the hubs for students. Throughout the day students use the library for class specific work and projects. Classes use the library for research and completion of activities. The library includes a large collection of computer resources. The library will benefit from a remodel that transforms it into a library of the 21st century.
