Mission Statement

Our vision for civ.works is a privacy-protected social network that provides a familiar, intuitive way to connect with your friends and networks -built on top of an easy to use civic engagement platform. A civic engagement platform built to evolve beyond electronic petitions into the creation of law and ballot initiatives -so you and your friends and communities can drive real and lasting change for better societal outcomes. We also look to separate money from politics by introducing participatory budgeting and appropriations.

About This Cause

We are technologists, public policy and economics analysts working to build the civ.works platform. civ.works is a privacy-protected social network that provides a familiar, intuitive way to connect with your friends and networks -built on top of an easy to use civic engagement platform. A civic engagement platform built to evolve beyond electronic petitions into the creation of law and ballot initiatives -so you and your friends and communities can drive real and lasting change. The civ.works project is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit project of Oregon-based Civic Works. Our social network is an invite-only site that you can use like any other platform (such as Facebook or Google+). We are an advertising-free media platform and we do not sell your individual profile data, likes or any other interactions to 3rd parties (We take your privacy seriously). We are working on new features that you can optionally use to help foster respectful political conversation and debate among others in our civ.works community. In our moderated areas we will focus on the results that we all want -without regard for political partisanship or ideology. Do you think WalMart should pay its fair share of taxes? Do you think your drinking water should be good tasting, refreshing and free of dangerous chemicals? Should children be able to attend great, safe schools? Should we protect our treasured national parks and reserves for our children and future generations of Americans? Should our colleges and universities prepare our children for their careers without burdening them with vast debt? Should corporations or unknown individuals or groups be able to corrupt our ability to be represented by our government? We at civ.works are developing the platform that can help join you with others on issues you are passionate about to drive the changes that matter to you. There are issues we all care about. And when Congress or our state or local elected officials are unable or unwilling to act on our behalf -we intend to provide the tools we need as citizens to get things done. Whether together we write a bill -and ask our representatives to sponsor and work to pass it -or we get initiatives on the ballot -we will drive transparency and accountability back into the process of governing. This is not about Democrats winning or Republicans winning. This is about ensuring we have policies and law that represent "We the People" -not Big Oil, Big Agriculture or other well-funded lobbying groups. This is about America winning -for our families, our neighbors, our communities and future generations of Americans. civ.works is coming.
