About This Cause
New Story is a Y Combinator nonprofit founded in 2014, bringing innovative solutions to the housing crisis in Latin America, and named “World’s Most Innovative Companies” four times by Fast Company. We enable low-income families to buy affordable land, secure legal land titles, and build wealth through homeownership. By partnering with local actors, we create market systems change, significantly benefiting women, and offer a scalable solution to global housing challenges. Land and property rights are out of reach for low-income families globally, particularly in Latin America, because the current market doesn’t work for them. Instead, it limits their prosperity and ability to thrive, keeping them in a cycle of poverty. We are uniquely positioned to solve this problem, with over a decade of experience working to end global poverty and homelessness. Families want the ability to buy a housing solution that serves their needs and their dignity. That’s why we partner with low-income, vulnerable families as customers instead of beneficiaries. Over the next three years, New Story is raising a blend of capital with targets for $20 million in philanthropic grants and $15 million from impact investors to advance inclusive economic growth through land ownership, particularly for low-income women.
