Mission Statement
Our mission is to restore and operate the North Park Theatre as a not for profit art theater and multi use entertainment venue.
About This Cause
The North Park Theatre is a historic movie theatre in Buffalo, New York. Originally named Shea's North Park, it has operated as a single screen cinema since 1920. The North Park Theatre exemplified a spacious comfortable neighborhood theatre when it was built. The North Park Theatre was originally part of the Shea’s theater circuit, which included Shea’s Buffalo, once owned by businessman Michael Shea. Designed by architect Henry L. Spann, it was influenced by the neoclassical movement and stands at the intersection of art deco and art nouveau. In anticipation of the North Park Theatre’s centennial anniversary in 2020, the short-term goal of the North Park Theatre Restoration project was to restore the lobby to its original 1920s glory and complete additional entrance and interior restoration and enhancements. These include restoring the stone and marble lobby floor, restoring the original height of the lobby ceiling, plaster restoration, as well as exterior masonry repair and lighting. Long term, an investment in the North Park Theatre Restoration Project will help to carry on its glorious legacy as a regional film destination and contribute to the ongoing preservation of this important community cultural asset for future generations. The theatre will continue to be an essential partner for economic stability and growth in North Buffalo’s Hertel-Parkside neighborhood, the surrounding communities, and the region.
