Mission Statement
Our main objective is to provide scholarships to deserving high school seniors in East Baton Rouge Parish who will further their education at Southern University. The chapter also awards scholarships to current Southern University students who experience financial hardship throughout their college career.
About This Cause
Traditionally, the SU Alumni Home Chapter hosts social fundraising events, in which the proceeds support the chapter's Scholarship Fund. The annual events include: Jaguar Jamboree, Scholarship Black Ball, and Crawfish Boil and Music Festival. In addition to raising funds, these events allow local entrepreneurs to participate as sponsors and/or vendors to promote their business. It is also an exciting time for Southern University Alumni, as well as lovers of Southern University, to network. In addition to fundraising events, the SU Alumni Home Chapter also participates in student events. During Freshman Move In Day, the chapter assists the incoming freshmen in moving into their residential housing. High School Day on the Bluff is a recruitment event for high school students who are interested in attending Southern University. The chapter provides the students with information about the University, as well as gives them tips for success. In addition, the SU Alumni Home Chapter participates in community service projects. Annual projects include: participating in Haunted Trails for Kids for Halloween, donating Thanksgiving dinners to Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), and donating toys to Santa's Road Show. The SU Alumni Home Chapter has also partnered with the Baton Rouge Food Bank to provide food boxes to local residents. In 2019, the Chapter launched the "SU Alumni Home Chapter Endowment" with the Southern University System Foundation to provide broader educational advantages for students, encourage research among faculty, and advance the University's role in helping to build an increasingly functional Louisiana.
