Mission Statement
At Thrive in Joy we encourage young people to discover their character strengths and the joy of service through programs inspired by the life of Nick Fagnano.
About This Cause
Nick Fagnano was a young man of exceptional character and joy. In 2014, at the age of 20, he was killed by a rare lightning strike at Venice Beach, CA. The foundation carries forward Nick's inspiration, kindness and compassion by offering high schools--especially those serving students in low-income communities-- C11, a strength of character after-school program for teens, including foster youth, in the Los Angeles area. The program allows teens to identify and engage their character strengths as well as activate them through entrepreneurial social impact projects that will produce a positive ripple effect within their community. Since its launch in 2018, C11 has reached over 350 students and in our post-session surveys over 80% of the students gave the sessions a rating of 9 out of 10 or 10 out of 10 in terms of giving them a better understanding of their character strengths and how they can use those strengths to help others. 95% of the students who participate in C11 are from diverse, low-income communities.
