About This Cause

WHO WE ARE Faith in Texas is a nonpartisan, multi-racial, multi-faith grassroots movement of people united in values working together to achieve economic, racial, and social justice for all people. We are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Unitarian Universalist, and believers in humanity. We are people of diverse races, faiths, socioeconomic backgrounds, and professions. We are your family, friends, neighbors, and community. We are an affiliate of the Faith in Action national network, the nation’s largest network developing civic leadership in low- and moderate-income faith communities to advocate for economic and racial justice. OUR VISION Faith in Texas envisions a world in which economic, racial, and social equity enable everyone to live in complete liberation to pursue their divine purpose and participate fully in the systems and processes that govern their lives. To affect change at the local and state levels, Faith in Texas aims to: *Name the lies and false narratives that undergird injustice and threaten our collective power and liberation. *Build broad coalitions across race, class, and faith that reflect the many stakeholders in our community to engage in strategic action to dismantle unjust systems *Demand accountability and transparency from our public systems and elected officials. *Develop a new generation of community leaders and elected officials to establish, protect, and promote community-centered issues, policies, and systems. *Pursue and promote grassroots funding. We do this through: *Policy Campaigns and Integrated Voter Engagement *Leadership Development and Faith Formation *Deep Listening and Research *Public Action and Civil Disobedience *Storytelling and Strategic Communications All of our policy campaigns are designed to flow into integrated voter engagement. Before local, state, and federal elections, our member congregations and clusters develop plans to achieve 100% voting in their congregation and take responsibility to register and turn out under-represented voters through their personal networks, block-walks, and phone/text banks. We train our leaders in “deep canvass” principles, emphasizing transformative, quality conversations over volume. These “sacred conversations” help people to discover their own self-interest and values, uncover their internal barriers to voting, and build an identity as a voter. Our base of 250 volunteer leaders and 50 Covenant Partners/community partners, represents the diversity of Texas, with roughly equal proportion of Black, Brown, and white volunteer leaders. The staff of Faith in Texas is majority Black and the board is majority Black and Latinx. Faith in Texas is affiliated with the PICO National Network, the nation's largest network developing civic leadership in low-and-moderate income faith communities for economic and racial justice.
