About This Cause

Aarti for Girls is a grass roots not for profit working in making the society a better place for women and children. Aarti works with women, children and society at large to stop the cycle of female abandonment, mistreatment, and infanticide in India. At Aarti, we believe in the ultimate empowerment – for a woman to be able to write her own story. We realize that gender equality is beyond just the survival of a girl child or for that matter, economic independence of women. It is only when women have the power to make choices for themselves and for their children can we consider them to be liberated. Core Purpose: Aarti exists to ensure that women survive and are empowered to exercise choices over their lives. VFT works with disenfranchised women in creating a better tomorrow. In the last 25 years, VFT has 1. Conducted 30 workshops on leadership, 500 workshops in livelihood and 600 village meetings to make women aware of their rights and reached 2 million people 2. Trained 45 training programs on employability skills and has created self-help groups 3. 1000 orphaned children have been raised at Aarti Home, a home run by VFT and are professionals in various fields 4. 800 children have been rescued by child helpline 5. 200 children have been educated by Aarti school and mobile labs The girl child ratios in India are slipping and have gone from 988 to 1000 boys to 920 to 1000 boys in just 10 years. In the geographical areas where Aarti has been working the girl child ratios have remained stable. We believe our work has been instrumental in bringing slow but steady change in attitudes towards women, albeit in a limited geography.
