About This Cause

Gender Justice League is a gender and sexuality human rights organization headquartered in Seattle, Washington with offices also in Alexandria, Virginia. Founded in 2012, by a group of 20 long-time activists who were looking to ensure the safety, well-being, and prosperity of two-spirit, transgender, and gender-diverse people. Gender Justice League has focused on elevating human rights for trans and gender-diverse people by creating a community through advocacy efforts, supporting survivors of gender based violence and crimes, creating a hallmark community event - Trans Pride Seattle, and leadership development. Gender Justice League is focused on social, economic, disability, and racial justice at the core of our work. Through our work in policy coalitions we have addressed dozens of urgent issues facing our communities: expanding health insurance coverage, increasing medical and mental health provider networks, creating safety for students in school, and supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and victims of crime. Our Programs are Focused on The Individual and System Level They include: Our Community Security Program: Since 2018 Gender Justice League has served more than 1,000 community members experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, and many forms of crime with Safety Planning, Systems Navigation, Peer Support, and Flexible Financial Assistance. We have provided more than $100,000 in flexible financial assistance to survivors averaging $25,000 a year to more than 100 survivors. Trans Pride Seattle: Growing to an in person audience of more than 30,000 people with more than 100 organizations participating, with 25 performers on our stage - Trans Pride Seattle has become the largest Trans specific event in the Pacific Northwest! Our hallmark even, TPS helps connect community to arts, culture, and community resources. Mobilizing more than 200 volunteers, it is a key opportunity for us to recruit and train new community members in giving back and showcase the incredible local and national talent in our community. Advocacy Day: Gender Justice League partners with Planned Parenthood Advocates Northwest to produce an annual advocacy Day at the Washington State House to bring more than 200 community members to meet with their legislators and share the issues that are impacting them most. This innovative approach to grass roots advocacy includes media programs focused on elevating transgender media representation and reducing stigma, bias, violence, and hatred of trans and gender diverse people and showcase our communities issue for state leaders. Training & Leadership Development: Throughout the Year, Gender Justice League is engaged in providing training and education to community organizations providing housing, shelter, medical care, employers, and government agencies that interact with two-spirit, trans and gender diverse people. We also host a statewide leadership summit annually to train new community members.
