Mission Statement
The mission of the IV LGBT Resource Center is to provide a safe place and empower the LGBT community by connecting them to essential resources. Currently we provide HIV testing and counseling, individual and family counseling, support groups (transgender/nonbinary, youth, adult, safe space and volunteer), domestic violence, anger management and intimate partner violence, and referrals.
About This Cause
As the only LGBT center in Imperial County, we provide referrals to people seeking LGBTQ+ specific services such as hormone replace therapy, therapy for gender dysphoria, gender reassignment surgery, artificial insemination, HIV treatment and drug treatment programs. Local county agencies refer individuals to the IV LGBT RC for mental health services, group support services, HIV testing and counseling, as well as for domestic and intimate partner violence. When specific services are not found in Imperial County, we refer people to San Diego County, Riverside County, Los Angeles County, San Francisco or out of state. Our staff, board members and volunteers receive training to facilitate small groups. On a weekly basis we provide five (5) to six (6) support groups: youth, adult, safe space, transgender/non-binary, volunteer and 12 step. On a weekly basis we also provide four (4) domestic violence classes. Periodically we also provide training or an activity that helps develop skills and improve mental health: dance, guitar, LGBT cultural competency and HIV education and prevention. Our motto is “here to help the community”. We aim to help anyone who seeks a service. By conducting assessments, we better understand the need to provide the help or refer them to the agency that can meet it. We also assist with basic needs, utilities and travel, if the budget allows taking reducing the worry of low-income families and the homeless population. Per our documentation, we have assisted over 10,000 people since our inception, and we expect that number to increase.
