Our mission is to educate and raise the quality of life for our community by providing disenfranchised populations with period supplies for girls and women, toilet training for parents and diapers for infants, children and senior citizens; ensuring that everyone in the Metropolitan Detroit areas can be clean, dry and healthy.
About This Cause
The Metropolitan Detroit Diaper Bank (MDDB) is committed to enhancing the quality of life for the Wayne, Oakland and Macomb County Communities through its four programs, providing essential hygiene products to underserved populations. A lack or these basic needs can lead to work absences for parents and school absences for teen parents. People experiencing a lack of basic hygiene products often face limitations on activities that enhance their lives within the community, with their families, and in their jobs. The (MDDB) is a nonprofit organization that supports families by fundraising, organizational sponsorships, and collecting, storing, and distributing free diapers to homeless shelters, food pantries, family service agencies, and faith-based organizations, among others. MDDB's 4 programs also provide direct services. Our buddy system enables case managers, families, or friends to pick up supplies for others. 1. Mobil Diaper Distributions: One in two families face diaper need. The Metropolitan Detroit Diaper Bank provides diapers for infants, children, and senior citizens to ensure everyone in the Metropolitan Detroit area can stay clean, healthy and dry. Prolonged use of soiled diapers can lead to skin irritations and potentially fatal urinary tract infections if left untreated. Most early childhood programs require parents to supply diapers for their babies, A monthly supply of 50 diapers is available for curbside pick-up by simply placing an online individual diaper request on our website. 2. Period Supplies: Period poverty is the inability to afford or access period products to manage menstruation. Two in five people with periods struggled to purchase period products due to lack of income. Most people recognize period poverty as a public health issue in the United States. Period supplies are distributed upon request through online curbside orders and direct contact for pick-up requests. 3. Incontinence Supplies: We provide incontinence supplies for individuals in need. Incontinence products are essential for maintaining comfort, cleanliness, and dignity. Without these items, individuals may feel isolated and embarrassed and worry about odors. Additionally, just as with children urinary tract infections, rashes, and other complications can arise, leading to more serious health concerns. Due to Digitial divide issues Seniors can call the diaper bank senior coordinator directly to receive an appointment of pick up. 4. Toilet Training Workshops: MDDB provides virtual workshops to help parents transition their toddlers from diapers to underwear. The workshops provide parents and caregivers with stress free tips and strategies for a diaper free toddler and a toolkit with items that ensure a successful experience for parents and children. Toilet training a baby helps with their independence, allows the family to redirect savings to other needs, Decreases the number of disposable diapers in landfills, which is better for the environment, promotes better hygiene and reduces the risk of diaper-related skin irritations and infections and helps children adapt to social norms and expectations, especially when they start attending preschool or daycare. Overall, toilet training is an important developmental milestone that benefits both the child and the parents.
