Mission Statement

St. Joe’s is an all-volunteer organization a long and distinguished record of feeding those in need in New York City. Our mission is simple: to feed the hungry and the homeless in a warm and welcoming environment every Saturday afternoon. We are a lean-operating organization that needs your support. For every $2.00 you donate, we are able to provide a person in need with a nutritious and delicious meal usually consisting of a main dish, a side, salad, fruit, coffee, drink, and bread with butter.

About This Cause

St. Joseph’s Soup Kitchen (aka St. Joe's) is an independent 501(c)3 organization that serves 400-500 meals every Saturday to New York’s homeless and hungry. Originally established by the parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church in 1976, the organization is now an independent organization that is no longer affiliated with the church. We retain the original name so our guests know where to find great food in a welcoming atmosphere. Not all of our guests are homeless. Some of our guests are individuals who are unable to hold a job due to mental illness, some of them are seniors from the community, while others are minimum-wage workers whose pay doesn’t cover both food and lodging in the city. Others are temporarily out of work and come to us to tide them over. For over almost 40 years, we’ve welcomed them all. The Soup Kitchen fulfills its mission as an all-volunteer organization. The University Parish of St. Joseph in Greenwich Village provides our space and covers the cost of utilities. So, almost every penny of every gift goes to the food, supplies and equipment needed to serve the 400+ meals we serve each week. Visit us at www.sjsk.nyc to find out more.
