Public Squash is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that helps coordinate the installation of outdoor squash courts to improve access and visibility of the sport. In partnership with the NYC Parks, the first outdoor squash court opened on April 17th, 2018 at Hamilton Fish Park, located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Public Squash operates exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, all for the public welfare, including, but not limited to, promoting the development of greater opportunities for everyone to learn and play the sport of squash in New York City and around the world.

About This Cause

Seven years ago in Philadelphia, we started playing squash. Instantly we were hooked. It was never easier getting up in the morning. It was all about bragging rights at the office. On that court, we became great friends. We love the game. We love the pace, the focus and the inability to turndown a match. It’s about those micro moments where you know you’re getting stronger and becoming a smarter player. You play once; you’re never the same. Not enough people know this feeling. We are determined to change that. Public Squash was founded to accomplish a single goal; make squash more accessible and visible to the public. We came up with a simple idea to build outdoor courts on underutilized park grounds. Squash can be played on multiple surfaces. Focusing on playability, durability and safety, the courts will offer a professional outdoor experience. Working with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, we did what we said we would do an built the very first public outdoor squash court. Fast forward to today, it is important to bring this sport to the public and make accessible to all. The sport as it stands right now does not focus on equality. It is becoming more clear than ever that we should be focusing on that goal. Please help us get there by getting a hat and donating, all proceed go to reopening the court. We look forward to seeing you out on the open aired and public courts. The Public court in the Lower East Side at Hamilton Fish Park was vandalized, breaking two panels (see pictures), which consequently made the floor unusable. We are working with the parks to find a solution to help reduce the risk of this happening again. We have heard many of your phone calls directly and through the parks department. We apologies for the inconvenience. The Public Squash Team is a small volunteer based company. Unfortunately, the panels cost money to fix and repairs are only made possible through donations at this point, as we only have money to fix the floor this summer. If you play and/or would like to see the court fixed, please donate. Thank you!
