Mission Statement

FoodRecovery.org, formerly known as MEANS Database, is a platform that connects organizations with surplus food to communities in need, championing sustainability by diverting edible food away from landfills. All for free.

About This Cause

FoodRecovery.org is a food rescue and redistribution nonprofit that is rapidly expanding and growing programs in all 50 states and DC, reaching new communities and strengthening our food recovery work in current areas. We work with nationwide corporations and institutions to move donations ranging from events leftovers, one pallet of dry pasta to 43,000 lbs of canned food to organizations serving families and individuals facing food insecurity. 2024 marked a transformative year for our organization as we unveiled our fresh rebrand as FoodRecovery.org, reflecting our mission and vision more clearly. Behind the scenes, we significantly advanced our technological infrastructure, enabling more efficient operations and greater reach. Through strategic partnerships and community outreach, we expanded our network of collaborators committed to fighting food waste. These collective efforts resulted in the recovery of over 81 million pounds of food nationwide—nourishing communities, reducing environmental impact, and creating a more sustainable food system. Each pound represents not only meals provided to those in need but also a step toward a future where no good food goes to waste.
