Mission Statement
The Senior Citizen Council of Cobb County (SCC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to enriching the lives of adults over 55 in Cobb County, Georgia. We are a passionate group of volunteers working to ensure as many of the more than 100,000 Cobb seniors as possible seniors feel connected, informed, and empowered. Here's how we make a difference: • Connection: We foster a sense of community through informative website updates, a monthly e-BULLETIN and strong social media presence • Information: Our website provides valuable resources on topics like healthcare, transportation, Medicare, downsizing and patient advocacy. We also host educational programs with experts on relevant issues. • Advocacy: We champion senior concerns by addressing them with local and state governments, ensuring seniors' voices are heard. About This Cause
KEEPING COBB SENIORS CONNECTED AND INFORMED The Senior Citizen Council of Cobb County (SCC) is a non-profit 501 (C) (3) all-volunteer organization established in 1973 to promote the common good and general welfare of adults who are at least 55 years of age living in Cobb County, Georgia. The SCC provides relevant programs and activities for senior citizens in the Cobb County area and serves as a source of continuous information and connection for this rapidly increasing age group in our community. Membership is not required to attend any sponsored meeting or event, but a nominal amount is charged for those who want to become voting members of the organization. The Senior Citizen Council of Cobb County advocates for its seniors in several ways: - Sponsors a variety of events and educational programs where we bring in experts on topics such as transportation choices, patient advocacy, elder abuse, downsizing and decluttering, Medicare issues, legislative issues. - Maintains an active website where seniors can access information about available resources, gain knowledge on issues and topics important to them, and find out about current activities in which they might want to participate - Has published a monthly e-BULLETIN for the past 25 years which is free to all who subscribe and contains both SCC communications and also provides links to many other sources of information, assistance, and events of interest to Cobb seniors - Maintains connections with elected officials and makes them aware of senior concerns that need to be considered during their law and policy making decisions - Provides updated voter education on eligibility and deadlines at information tables located at senior centers during election season - Sponsors legislative forums in which local, county, and state representatives meet with seniors in a program of direct dialog of question-and-answer sessions - Maintains the Vial of LIFE program which provides first responders with easy access to a senior individual’s medical history - Celebrates an annual National Senior Citizens Day luncheon where Cobb County Commissioners present proclamations to seniors who have shown exceptional leadership and volunteer service in the community - Participates in numerous Cobb County events including Senior Day at the North GA State Fair and the Cobb County International Fair - Participates in major Veterans EXPO and devotes a sizable portion in every e-BULLETIN to veteran topics Affiliations: Cobb Collaborative Georgia Council on Aging Cobb Chamber of Commerce Publications: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SeniorCitizensCouncilofCobbCounty Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/scccobb/ Website: https://www.seniorsofcobb.org/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/seniorsofcobb/ email: info@seniorsofcobb.org
