Mission Statement
Chicken & Egg Pictures supports women nonfiction filmmakers whose artful and innovative storytelling catalyzes social change. We envision an inclusive media industry in which women and gender nonconforming filmmakers, representing a range of experiences and backgrounds, are fully supported to realize their artistic goals, and build fulfilling careers in the documentary film industry. Since 2005, Chicken & Egg Pictures has awarded $7 million in grants and thousands of hours of creative mentorship to over 300 filmmakers. Films supported by Chicken & Egg Pictures have won numerous awards, including Academy and Emmy Awards, but more importantly, they have resulted in change for the issues they address.
About This Cause
Chicken & Egg Pictures believes the path to justice requires a media landscape that truly reflects the world in which we live and that, in order to have such diverse representation, the storyteller must be as important as the story—that the identity of the filmmaker determines their perspective on an issue; their ability to connect with their topic and their characters; and their intuition for identifying nuances in the narrative. That’s why we look for women and gender nonconforming individuals with a range of backgrounds and experiences to tell the stories they alone are uniquely poised to tell. We support filmmakers who show a commitment to their social issue and subject matter, and projects that demonstrate a unique or compelling relationship between the identity/personal story of the filmmaker and the subject they are exploring through their film. To date, Chicken & Egg Pictures has awarded over $7 million in grants and thousands of hours of creative mentorship to over 350 filmmakers. Films supported by Chicken & Egg Pictures have won numerous awards, including Academy and Emmy Awards, but more importantly, they have resulted in change for the issues they address.
