Mission Statement

Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation funds US-based research to change what’s possible for people with cerebral palsy, implements proven science, empowers people through education, and advances technology benefiting disabled people worldwide.

About This Cause

The world was not built for disabled people, but it can and should be. Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation is building a more inclusive world for and with the one million people with cerebral palsy and the the more than one billion disabled people worldwide. We're funding the brightest researchers to drive innovation for the disabled community. We foster collaboration and data-sharing in hospitals and research institutions across the US and Canada to improve the quality of care and treatment for people with CP and co-occurring disabilities. CP is the most common lifelong physical disability in the world. Caused by a brain injury during pregnancy, birth, or shortly after birth, it affects movement, coordination, muscle tone and control, reflexes, posture, and balance. Several conditions, including intellectual disability, impaired vision, and epilepsy can co-occur with CP. Because cerebral palsy is complex and affects each person differently, CPARF's work has broad implications for the disability community and society overall. This is why we established three key pillars to fulfill our mission: research, innovation, and collaboration. Threaded across these pillars is our commitment to educating the community on advancements in care, access, and opportunity. OUR RESEARCH CPARF supports a diverse research portfolio that spans from infancy to adulthood. We currently fund over 40 multi-year studies, as well as two fellowships of early career researchers, across six focus areas are: ● Adulthood ● Chronic Pain ● Early Detection and Early Intervention ● Genomics ● Regenerative Medicine ● Technology The results of these studies advance the care, treatment, and health outcomes of people with cerebral palsy, the disability community at-large, and society. OUR INNOVATION Remarkable US rapidly brings assistive technologies to the people who need it the most quickly. These technologies increase independence and make life easier - improving movement, communication, navigation, and more. Assistive technologies hold the power to transform peoples' lives. By expanding access to assistive technology, we can ensure that everyone — from people with disabilities and chronic illnesses to the aging population — is fully included in society. OUR COLLABORATION Our partnership with Cerebral Palsy Research Network (CPRN) means improved care through collaboration across 30 hospitals and institutions, including Harvard Medical School and Northwestern University. This network serves as the first national registry of patients with CP and will expand knowledge and best practices in treatment and care for people with CP. We work with CPRN to actively recruit new member institutions throughout the year. OUR COMMUNITY EDUCATION Our outreach and educational programs ensure that our community stays informed on as many fronts as possible. We offer a portfolio of programs, including digital content like webinars, web series, and podcasts, as well as resource guides and opportunities to participate in co-design initiatives. While the world isn’t built for disabled people, we believe it can and should be. You can help us achieve this vision.
