Mission Statement
We are a passionate canine rescue group in Northeast Georgia that works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, fully vet, and rehome faithful dogs that society has failed. We do not turn a dog away due to breed, health concerns, or age. It is our goal to keep these dogs out of animal shelters, thus saving their lives and providing more time to the dogs already in shelters to find their forever family.
About This Cause
Dirt Road Doggies Rescue is a volunteer, foster-based rescue organization formed to help every dog find its forever home. All dogs in our program have come to us from/in cooperation with local animal control shelters or code enforcement or from the owner surrender of dogs to ensure they were not lost pups that had a family diligently looking for them. We are a registered, 501c3 tax-deductible non-profit rescue and we are licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. Our doggies are fostered by compassionate families until they are adopted, and we want each adoption to be successful -- we work hard to be sure our rescues don't gain a family only to lose it all over again. With intricate knowledge of our dogs’ personalities, we want to make "forever families" by matching the adoptive family’s needs with the dog's. All of our dogs are fully vetted, parasite-free, and altered (spay/neuter) prior to adoption, with the exception of puppies who will be altered at 6 months of age (the alter is included in our adoption fee). Completed vetting paperwork is presented at the time of adoption. Every dog also is microchipped so that it can be reunited with its family if they are separated. Dirt Road Doggies Rescue takes responsibility for all the medical and vetting costs that have been approved for all of the dogs in our care until they are adopted, including required vaccines and/or those recommended by our vet and monthly heartworm and flea/tick medication. The rescue also works to provide all the food and supplies that the foster family may need until the adoption is ensured. The road home for our doggies consists of four steps: An adoption application that requires general information and personal and vet references; a home visit from one of our volunteers to ensure the dog's future living space is safe and appropriate for the dog; a meet-and-greet (dog and foster parents included); and adoption finalization. All former Dirt Road Doggies are welcome back into the rescue throughout their entire life. We make a commitment to take back any dog for any reason. To do this successfully, we rely on our foster families to help choose adopters who want to give our dogs a FOREVER home. Circumstances change, but we hope that our fosters are able to connect with their adopters to help make sure the adoption is for life. Current dogs will never be abandoned. Each adoption contribution is used to help cover the expenses incurred for the adopted dog and other dogs in our program. We do not adjust the adoption contribution based on the “popularity” of a dog -- we believe all dogs are worthy of owners who see their value -- but the expenses for a particular dog often far outweigh the contributions received. Fund-raising and the solicitation of donations are important parts of our volunteer efforts. The rescue participates in at least one adoption event each month unless circumstances outside of the rescue’s control prevent that (i.e. – COVID-19). In addition to the opportunity for meet-and-greet times and promoting dogs within the rescue, we also use these events to build recognition within the community about our rescue, solicit donations, and gain new fosters and volunteers. We are truly thankful to those that contribute to our mission.
