About This Cause
Cool Effect enables Americans to fight climate change with the click of a button by providing support to the highest quality greenhouse gas reducing projects around the globe. Cool Effect connects its members to fully-vetted entrepreneurs who are using simple technology to reduce carbon pollution. A nonprofit, Cool Effect prioritizes full transparency – when you fund a project, you know exactly where your money is going and how it is helping the project and our planet. A team of well-respected climate scientists decides which projects meet Cool Effect’s stringent requirements. These projects can be anywhere in the world. The scientists conduct a detailed due diligence to make sure the project verifiably reduces greenhouse gases, is 100 percent additional, and provides full transparency in pricing and efficacy. We currently enable individuals to provide ongoing support to projects in the US, Indonesia, Mexico, India, China, Honduras, and Uganda. When an individual funds a project on Cool Effect, she receives updates, both quantitative and qualitative, to show her where and how the money was spent. Similar to Kickstarter, Cool Effect allows whole communities to come together to fund projects and reports back on the progress. Cool Effect also offers the Coollection, which enables supporters to fund all Cool Effect projects at once with a donation amount of their choice. The founders of Cool Effect have a decade of experience in the carbon markets, have sold over 650,000 tonnes of emission reductions and built 110,000 fuel-efficient Gold Standard certified cookstoves in rural Honduras. Honesty, transparency and a sophisticated knowledge of carbon projects are the cornerstones of the Cool Effect platform. We call it “Carbon Done Correctly.” Cool Effect’s platform is based on hard, undeniable science and a focused review of additionality. We are committed to the highest level of transparency and tangibility, which, sadly, is lacking in the carbon markets today. We’re building a community and publicly broadcasting the efforts of that community along with project details – both benefits and challenges – through frequent updates. 90.13% of everything our non-profit receives goes directly to the projects. Cool Effect was founded on the passionate belief that individual support of projects will create a cumulative effect that will reduce and prevent carbon pollution. Like the Butterfly Effect, The Ripple Effect, and others, a single action can have global impact. The organization’s mission is to ignite planet sized change.
