Mission Statement
The New Mexico Kidney Foundation (NMKF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to kidney disease prevention by enhancing awareness and improving the quality of life of people with or at risk of kidney disease through education, research and philanthropic projects.
About This Cause
The New Mexico Kidney Foundation was created in response to a need seen by providers and patients affected by kidney disease in our community to address the growing rate of people with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and the unique demographics of New Mexico that lead to the greater likelihood of developing CKD. With the assistance of several members of the community and patients affected by kidney disease, the foundation was formed in late 2015. We aspire to improve the quality of life in individuals with or at risk of kidney disease, to decrease kidney failure rates, and to increase transplant rates in New Mexico. We have three main programs as part of our mission: Education - We provide education in schools, senior centers, community organizations, and disadvantaged communities, as well as education in Native American communities to reach those at risk of kidney disease. We also educate patients with kidney disease. Annual Symposium - To educate healthcare providers, we sponsor an annual symposium for advancing the prevention of chronic kidney disease and improvement of treatment of those with kidney disease. Direct Assistance - We support patients on dialysis to achieve specific goals through strategic partnerships with local dialysis support and we support individual patients that need assistance with pre- kidney transplant workups.
