BETTER TOGETHER

Mission Statement

When crisis strikes, most of us turn to family or friends for help—but many of our neighbors have nowhere to turn. They struggle in isolation until problems become too much to bear, and families break apart due to divorce, homelessness, or foster care. Of the 24,000 children in Florida foster care, most were not abused. Their parents simply could not provide food and shelter, often due to tough issues like substance abuse, addiction, illness, homelessness, unemployment, and more. These are good parents who couldn’t navigate crisis and care for their children at the same time. They didn’t need foster care—they needed a friend. They needed the healthy community of the Church. Our ministry has proven all of these challenges can be overcome with the right support system in place. And in doing so, we can share the gospel and create pathways for families to connect with the Church and build relationships with the Lord. Better Together works every day to connect church volunteers with neighbors in need as they battle through crisis and rebuild their lives. We provide churches with dignifying, sustainable solutions that build long-term relationships and pathways to faith. Churches nationwide have told us they want to offer more than benevolence assistance. They want to offer the gift of opportunity and a fresh start. Our two ministries, Better Jobs and Better Families, offer churches—and their volunteers—the opportunity to coach and mentor adults through unemployment, addiction, homelessness, and other major challenges. This foundation of mentorship is the bedrock of our approach, as these empathy-infused relationships transform both the helper and the helped. Building on that foundation, our two ministries give churches the opportunity to: • Offer hospitality-infused, hope-filled job fairs through our Better Jobs ministry to help neighbors connect to the dignity of work • Provide volunteer host families through our Better Families ministry who are willing to open their doors to take in children whose parents are battling through a crisis and have made the brave, voluntary decision to place them temporarily with a caring family By coming alongside our ministry, and not only taking part in these programs, but supporting our work to make it possible for us to serve more churches, your congregation is a critical piece of restoring the American Church to its rightful place as the safe harbor for our neighbors who most need support, opportunity, and the gospel.
