Mission Statement
United Way of the Plains brings the community together to advance education, income, and health. We want to give everyone in our community the opportunity to succeed.
About This Cause
United Way of the Plains focuses on three key areas to create opportunities for everyone in our local community: • EDUCATION - Nurturing children's potential. We know that entering school ready to learn and graduating on time leads to success in work and life. • INCOME - Fostering financial stability. Income is one of the basic building blocks of a good life. It's about more than having a paycheck though. It's also about financial stability and having access to job training and financial counseling. • HEALTH - Improving people's wellness. A neighbor recently diagnosed with cancer, a victim of abuse or someone struggling with mental illness - they all need quality care. To do this, United Way raises funds for programs, works with coalitions, writes grants, recruits volunteers and distributes in-kind gifts. United Way helps people find needed services through the United Way 2 1 1 information line and helps match people to volunteer opportunities through the United Way Volunteer Center. HOW UNITED WAY OF THE PLAINS WORKS We do more than ask for your money. We ask for your input. We do our research and we bring people together to help us make informed decisions. • We conduct a Community Needs Assessment to determine the greatest needs of our community. See current report at www.unitedwayplains.org/needsassessment • Local nonprofits submit funding requests for the annual grant review process. • 150+ volunteers carefully review them to determine which programs make the biggest impact and how much to fund them. See who we currently fund at www.unitedwayplains.org/whowefund. • Who are these trusted volunteers? They’re your neighbors, coworkers, friends. Could even be you.
