Mission Statement

The mission of Rosedale Development Association (RDA) is to work with residents, businesses, and institutions to develop a thriving Rosedale community.

About This Cause

Rosedale Development Association (RDA) is a 501c3 nonprofit community development organization serving the Rosedale community in southeastern Wyandotte County. The mission of RDA is to work with residents, businesses, and institutions to develop a thriving Rosedale community. RDA began as a grassroots, community-centered organization to address issues such as neighborhood blight, business development, crime, zoning, and flood control. Some programs, such as Christmas In October/Minor Home Repair and the Summer Youth Employment program, have been a part of RDA from the early years, while others have emerged in response to community-indicated needs. A great example of this is Rosedale Healthy Kids (RHK), a community-based collaborative project from 2009 - 2018 working to address and improve equitable access to healthy food and opportunities for active living after alarming data found that in 2008 that 51% of Rosedale youth were overweight or obese. Currently, RDA is actively involved in: organizing and developing neighborhood groups; addressing issues of crime and environmental codes, participating in and leading local task forces, coordinating volunteer projects such as minor home repairs and community clean-ups, offering year-round youth programs, and operating as a neighborhood and community resource center, addressing hundreds of calls and walk-in inquiries monthly. In 2019, RDA launched the Advancing Rosedale Community Health (ARCH) project, a comprehensive community health project based on the successful work of Rosedale Healthy Kids combined with the recognition that our efforts were not doing enough to address the social determinants of health. The project combines our effective programs with equally effective work to build the civic engagement and economic stability our neighborhoods need for long-term sustainability. Instrumental to this strategy are quality, community-oriented programs that grow with Rosedalians as they age, providing a pipeline of programs, community service, and civic engagement from elementary through adulthood. RDA is a place-based nonprofit organization, though we work in partnership with many organizations trying to improve the quality of life for all in our region and across the state. Because our mission is neighborhood-oriented instead of based on a specific issue or problem, it allows RDA to remain responsive to specific and changing community needs, to maintain close relationships with residents and clients over the long-term, and to align our programs and services with the community’s vision for Rosedale.
