Our Mission: BrightHouse provides confidential, non-judgmental support to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, their families and friends. Our Vision: We are dedicated to developing a community that is free from domestic and sexual violence.
About This Cause
The mission of BrightHouse is to provide confidential, non-judgmental support to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, their families and friends. Our agency vision is to develop a community that is free from sexual and domestic violence. We have two primary programs – Victim Advocacy services, including a safe shelter house in Reno County, and our Child Visitation & Exchange Center. For over 35 years, BrightHouse has been providing life-saving and life-changing services in Reno County. We serve Reno County residents as well as those in other parts of Kansas who flee to Reno County for their safety, or who need a location to safely exchange or visit their children. Our main office is located in Hutchinson with outreach offices and staff in Kingman, Harper, and Rice Counties. BrightHouse’s services are not duplicated - there is no other agency in Reno County or surrounding areas that provides similar services. BrightHouse is a non-profit governed by a volunteer Board of Directors with day to day operations overseen by the Executive Director. BrightHouse has 12 full-time and 10 part-time staff members. The majority of our funding comes from state and federal grants, local foundations and grants, contributions, fundraising, and the Reno County United Way. We provide: • 24-hour live crisis intervention hotline and crisis intervention response staffed by trained victim advocates, • Assistance during the medical evidentiary examination, police investigation, and court proceedings to survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence, • A 24-hour residential Shelter House for survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence and their children, • Safety planning and crisis intervention planning, • Information, personal advocacy, referral services, medical advocacy, legal advocacy, court advocacy, financial advocacy, education, mental health assistance, support groups, and community resources to survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence, • Face-to-face emotional support and guidance services to survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence by trained victim advocates in a confidential and safe manner, • Follow-up contact with utmost concern for safety and confidentiality, • Community awareness through brochures, the BrightHouse website, educational programs, fundraising and awareness events, and media communications, • Prevention through teaching about healthy relationships, consent, and safe dating with area high school students and HCC student services and athletic departments, • Ongoing cooperation and interaction with agencies and organizations that share concerns and resources, • Advocacy in promoting the rights and status of survivors, • Nonsectarian, nondiscriminatory, and accessible voluntary and confidential services at no charge or fee to participants.
