Mission Statement
To provide the youth of the Wichita area with a year-round schedule of quality educational opportunities that will enrich their lives and foster a participation in, an appreciation of, and a support of the performing arts, while providing quality entertainment to the community.
About This Cause
In 1976, Music Theatre of Wichita maintained a touring group for young people. This group transferred to the Wichita Art Association and began operating informally in 1980. In the spring of 1984, the Music Theatre of Wichita Board of Directors, determined that Wichita Children’s Theatre should operate as a separate organization. The theatre was incorporated and received 501 c(3) status, with Monica Flynn, executive director. Since its incorporation, WCT&DC has steadily grown to meet the educational and cultural needs of Wichita area youth and families. Major Programs • Professional Touring Company, This portion travels through the midwest and produces shows at schools and provides workshops in the schools. • Mainstage Productions (children performing for schools and public) - Children can participate free of charge in these productions • Once Upon A Time Productions (Adult Professional Actors performing for 2-8 year-olds), We are the only theatre that provides this exposure to live theatre year round for this age group • Heather Muller Black Box Theatre Productions (Jr. High & High School students performing), These shows are also free of charge for these children • Shannon School of Performing Arts (Providing theatre, music & dance classes for ages 3 & up)
