The mission of Vibrant Health (formerly Turner House Clinic) is to provide access to respectful, empowering, culturally sensitive and appropriate high-quality health care for the community, regardless of socio-economic obstacles.
About This Cause
Since 1990, children and families in Kansas City, Kansas have relied on us for quality health care. That year, a small group of volunteer doctors founded Turner House Children’s Clinic to take care of uninsured children and mothers in one neighborhood. Over the past 6 years, we’ve expanded to better meet the health care needs of people of all ages in Wyandotte County. Our name – Vibrant Health – truly reflects our vision for healthier people and healthier communities. Now patients of all ages can access life-changing medical, dental, behavioral health care, and pharmacy services at one of four neighborhood clinics in Wyandotte County, KS. The vast majority of our patients are individuals and families who often experience significant barriers in accessing affordable health care and achieving better health outcomes simply because they live, work, or go to school in Kansas City, Kansas. These obstacles include poverty, food insecurity, limited English language proficiency, lack of affordable/reliable transportation, and being un- or under-insured. Additionally, Wyandotte is ranked last in the state when it comes to factors that can positively impact a population's overall health such as healthy behaviors, clinical care, and physical environment. In 2022, Vibrant Health served 15,780 individual patients with 85% having an annual household income at or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines (for a family of 4, that's $30,000). Vibrant Health is a critical lifeline of health care for un- and under-insured patients by discounting services (up to 100%) under a sliding payment scale, offering free transportation and telehealth options, promoting on-site pharmacy benefits (often resulting in significant savings) to patients, helping with KanCare applications, connecting people with other community resources, and providing certified medical interpreters services for the 60% of patients best served in a language other than English. We pursue this mission through the delivery of equitable, “whole person" care for children and adults. In addition to primary medical, dental, behavioral, and women’s health services, Vibrant Health has onsite pharmacy services and provides community outreach services as well as school-based preventive dental care and behavioral health services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we welcome everyone as a patient - no matter your race or ethnicity, your spoken language, your gender identity or sexual orientation, your income, your immigration or insurance status. The FQHC movement originated in the 1960s, out of the idea that people need access to quality health care regardless of where they live or their ability to pay – an idea that is directly rooted in our organizational values and mission. We are an independent, registered 501c3 non-profit organization, governed by a board of directors. More than half of our board receives their (or their child’s) medical, dental, or behavioral health care services at Vibrant Health. Thanks to generous financial support from donors, nearly 20,000 patients will receive life-changing care at a Vibrant Health clinic this year.
