About This Cause

LifeHouse Child Advocacy Center (LifeHouse) has been the premier, non-profit organization in Shawnee County, Kansas dedicated to the welfare of child victims of violent crimes since 2000. LifeHouse provides services to child victims of crime. We do this through a multidisciplinary approach to the forensic interviewing and joint investigations of child victims and/or witnesses of sexual and physical abuse. LifeHouse partners with law enforcement, the Department for Children and Families, the Shawnee County District Attorney's Office, Stormont Vail Hospital and a mental health provider to perform the multidisciplinary approach to these cases. Once a child has disclosed of sexual abuse the child and his/her family, DCF and law enforcement meet at LifeHouse for the forensic interview. LifeHouse provides a safe, child-focused setting where a trained interviewer can interview the child in a professional manner taking necessary precautions to be sensitive to the child’s needs but to also obtain a sound, defensible interview. During the child’s interview, LifeHouse advocates meet with the non-offending family members to provide support and information needed to begin a healing process for the child. Interviews are recorded and DVD’s provided to law enforcement, DCF and prosecution. This effort has continued to aid in the prosecution of offenders by the District Attorney’s Office. LifeHouse continues to work with the family throughout the investigation process including advocacy and support for the child at all court hearings.
