About This Cause
THE PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES OF ST. ANDREW’S SCHOOL In 1929, the School’s Founder, A. Felix duPont, wrote: “The purpose of St. Andrew’s School is to provide secondary education of a definitely Christian character at a minimum cost consistent with modern equipment and highest standards.” Today, St. Andrew’s seeks to fulfill this broad purpose in the following ways: • We provide a rigorous liberal arts curriculum. Within this framework we seek to acquaint our students with the accumulated wisdom of human culture, to help them develop analytical skills and competence in oral, written and quantitative expression, to cultivate in them a lasting desire for learning for its own sake, and to prepare them for post-secondary education and fulfilling life experiences. • We expect our students to share responsibility for life in a community founded on Christian ethical principles and beliefs, and to participate in a challenging co-curriculum which includes athletics, community service and the arts. In this way we seek to provide our students with experiences which will foster individual excellence, leadership skills, personal growth and lead to increased understanding of, respect, and responsibility for themselves, their neighbors and the world. • We seek through study and worship to explore with our students the ultimate questions of life and to offer, for the consideration of all, the teachings of the Christian faith. • We seek qualified students regardless of financial need. As we pursue these objectives, we affirm our fundamental concern for the individual and seek to help each student work toward his or her unique personal potential. Finally, we believe that the School’s setting in a beautiful, natural environment at some distance from urban and suburban life enhances our ability to achieve our goals, that our objectives can best be fulfilled in a relatively small residential community, and that the success of our mission depends on our ability to attract dedicated and energetic students and faculty who will bring to our community diverse interests, talents and backgrounds.
