Mission Statement

Since 1975, the Associated Recreation Council (ARC) has provided recreation, lifelong learning programs and community-driven leadership in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation. With a goal of providing equal and equitable access to citywide programs for Seattle residents of all ages, ARC works through 37 volunteer Advisory Councils to fulfill its mission of “building community through citizen engagement and participation in recreation and lifelong learning programs."

About This Cause

The Associated Recreation Council (ARC) and our 37 Advisory Councils partner with Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) to enhance programming at community centers and recreation facilities throughout the city. Our mission is to build community through citizen engagement and participation in recreation and lifelong learning programs. ARC in partnership with SPR creates a space where children, teens, families, and adults can come together to learn, create, and attain their best through athletics, the arts, education, environmental stewardship and community events. Some of our programs include: School-Age Care, Preschools, Summer Day Camps, Summer Youth Media Internships, and youth scholarships for many of our programs. We are particularly proud to represent the voice of the community and inject that voice into the programs offered citywide through the Advisory Councils made up of volunteers representing their own neighborhood or local community.
