Mission Statement

Balinese American Dance Theatre Ltd., also known as BALAM Dance Theatre (BALAM), was founded in 1979 by Islene Pinder, a choreographer and educator, to create a vision of contemporary cultural dance inspired by Balinese theatre and historical periods. BALAM’s work both entertains and educates audiences. By blending and recontextualizing traditional world movement techniques into an accessible contemporary context, the company's artistic vision affirms universal humanist values and ancient societal wisdom through a cross-cultural message that cultivates understanding, inclusiveness, and appreciation.
