About This Cause

The Delaware Charter Schools Network provides advocacy and support for the charter school movement and charter schools in Delaware. The Network educates the public about charter schools, provides assistance to existing Delaware charter schools and those yet to open, and serves as a voice for the state's charter schools at the state and national level. At the Delaware Charter Schools Network we believe that ... ... every child deserves an opportunity for an excellent public education. ... every child learns differently, so families need a wide variety of excellent choices to match a wide variety of learning styles. ... the freedom and flexibility that our teachers enjoy allows them to adapt and change quickly inside the classroom to meet the needs of their students -- and that freedom and flexibility is critical for our children’s success. ... every day, charter schools create unique learning communities in their schools, filling their students with a sense of adventure, a well of resources and a spirit of ingenuity that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.Who does the Delaware Charter School Network Help? The Delaware Charter Schools Network works throughout the year to advocate for parents, teachers, leaders and almost 16,000 charter school students throughout the state of Delaware. Your assistance helps us to remain strong as a resource to the entire charter community. Delaware charter schools offer an incredible array of educational options to students from preschoolers to high school seniors. Among the 24 charter schools in the state, Delaware has a nationally recognized STEM school, dual language schools, military charters, schools for students with special needs, and schools that focus on under-served communities. Each charter school operates independently from established school districts, giving the schools the freedom and flexibility to educate students the way they’re best ready to learn, and the accountability to be responsible for their student outcomes. The Delaware Charter Schools Network supports all charter schools in areas where collaboration between multiple schools across the state is in everyone’s best interest, and when schools need specialized assistance in areas where they might not have staff experience. We are not a district. We exist to serve our charters, supporting them by: *assisting potential applicants and newly formed schools through the process to ensure their greatest potential for success. *working with a legal team to help schools understand and interpret changing legislation, and make the necessary changes to their practices. *working with local community organizations to provide governance training for Charter School Governing Boards. *acting as a resource for the State Department of Education regarding Charter School issues. *serving on task forces created around education. Currently we serve on the Delaware Special Education Strategic Plan Advisory Council that assists in the implementation of the State’s strategic plan. In the past five years, the charter community in Delaware has grown dramatically – and so have the calls for assistance from our charters as they strive to offer new programs, open new facilities and meet the demand from Delaware families. Last year, there were more than 7,000 students on wait lists for Delaware charter schools. Your support helps us help them.
