Mission Statement
Thomas-Adams Residential Care Facility (TARCF) is a licensed, family owned and operated, 32 bed facility located in East Oakland. Since 1992 we have provided a caring home to mentally-challenged adults ages 18 to 59 years old, who have been diagnosed by a licensed physician with a mental disorder. We are committed to providing an environment that is compassionate and supportive to our residents. Our community of caregivers strives to provide an atmosphere of self-respect, independent living and a healthy quality of life.
About This Cause
We would like to renovate our property, give the interior a facelift and brighten the lives of our Residents. We have one Resident who has lived with us for 26 years, others have lived with us for 20 to10 plus years. We have a hand full that have lived with us for 5 years or less. Our wish list includes, but is not limited to: new windows, roofs, doors, flooring, a completely renovated modern kitchen, a brand new van to transport our Residents to and from appointments and outings.....as soon as the world opens back up. We need new plumbing & electrical and a secure fence or gate surrounding our property, so we can protect our staff and residents 24/7. We would also like to hire a landscape architect, to redesign our property so that it is easier for Residents to move around outdoors. We would love to plant a state of the art, edible garden that our Residents would be responsible for maintaining, while enjoying the fruits of their labor. Many of them love to garden. We need an awning in our courtyard, so our residents can be protected from rain or heat, if they choose to be outside. We would also like to build out a computer room for those who are able, willing or capable of enjoying some technology time if they choose to. Lastly, we would like to surprise our incredible Caregivers from time to time, with better spot bonuses. We have been able to give them a paid day off here or there, or extra money in their paycheck. However, we'd like to send them and their families on local vacations, or surprise them with dinner for them or their families in Napa, gift them tickets to a Warriors or 49ers game - when the world opens up.
