Mission Statement
Lotus Bloom is a community family resource center where children aged 0-5 and their parents/caregivers learn, play, gain confidence and find connections and resources. Lotus Bloom's mission is to ensure that every parent of young children, particularly those facing financial and other barriers, has a support system connecting them to the health, social and learning opportunities that will ensure their child has a strong start in life.
About This Cause
Lotus Bloom is a place of learning for children ages 0 - 5 and their caregivers. Caregivers and children from a variety of diverse backgrounds are welcomed into a multi-cultural, multi-lingual community where every person is valued, seen, heard and encouraged to grow and connect. The result is a community that is reflective and shaped by its individual community members. Lotus Bloom provides support, resources and referrals for high-need families with limited resources. Lotus Bloom's programs are centered in high-need neighbors. For over 10 years, Lotus Bloom has supported the children and families of Oakland serving over 500 families per year. A combination of factors influence the heart and health of our community. The first three years of life set the foundation for a lifetime of health, learning, and fulfillment. Many new parents, however, face barriers to providing their children optimal levels of care and resources. Being the parent of a newborn can be joyful but exhausting, and social isolation is a particular risk factor for caregivers who do not have nearby family support, who are unable to afford quality childcare, who are new to the United States or to the community in which they live, who are juggling childcare with other work and family obligations, and/or who are suffering from depression. We are the only family resource center supporting families living in poverty to create protective factors, enabling them to combat the risk factors that interfere with caring for their children (community violence, social isolation, mental health needs, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, being a person of color). We are here for them and offer early childhood development, parent support, wellness education, case management and referrals.
