Mission Statement
Cornerstone Montgomery empowers people living with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders to live, work, and integrate successfully within the community.
About This Cause
Cornerstone Montgomery is the outcome of the 2012 merger between two stalwart nonprofit mental health providers in Montgomery County, Maryland – St. Luke's House (founded in 1971) and Threshold Services (founded in 1981). Now, we are the largest, most comprehensive mental health organization in Montgomery County, Maryland. The organization has the capacity to serve 2,400 adults and transition age youth and owns and operates 75 properties. Cornerstone Montgomery implements Evidence Based Practices that have been proven to produce positive outcomes and these programs are monitored by expert, external evaluators. We employ 289 people, 30 of whom are part time. Inc. Magazine presented Cornerstone Montgomery with a Hire Power award for being a top job creator in Maryland in 2013. As a result of the economies of scale after our merger, Cornerstone Montgomery has the capacity to serve more people more effectively. Transition Aged Youth with severe and serious emotional problems are incredibly vulnerable and, without support services, at great risk. The enrollment in Cornerstone Montgomery’s Transition Aged Youth Programs has proven to be a consistent and effective treatment to address the barriers and needs of this population. The National Average for employing people with disabilities is 19.5%: the Cornerstone Montgomery Vocational Program has a 68% employment rate. In FY14, Cornerstone Montgomery helped 437 adults and 146 transition age youth obtain/maintain employment: earning an estimated total of $3.6 million. The clients enrolled in CAPS earned approximately $150,000 in FY14. Our comprehensive services help individuals who have serious mental health disorders become more independent and less dependent on public resources.
